Review Assistant is a Visual Studio add-in for adding comments directly to project code, in which way developers are able to discuss code with other developers working on same projects directly from within the Visual Studio.
Visual Studio is widely used software today for developing different kinds of applications, from desktop, mobile, to web applications. It also supports a wide variety of different programming languages.
By using Review Assistant, developers can add comments to lines or blocks of code, to files and also to the entire review. Comments can be flagged as defective, and thus submitted for further review iterations. Unread comments and replies are shown highlighted, so they can be easily found on the review board, and developers can also be prevented to submit code, without a prior review.
Notifications can be set up for code review changes, and are shown as pop-up windows in Visual Studio IDE, as well as sent by email. Source control is also available, supporting TFS, Subversion, Mercurial, Git, and Perforce source control systems.
Any diff tool can be integrated with the add-in, and if Code Compare diff tool is used, comments can be also added directly from the diff window. Other useful features are Reports and Statistics, which allows to view Reviewers Statistics, Code Coverage and other details of the project.
Overall, this add-in can prove useful, when more developers are working on same projects, as it allows them to communicate the code with other developers directly from the Visual Studio IDE. This feature is also natively present in the Visual Studio by default, but Review Assistant adds many additional functionalities, making it a superior alternative.
